Alaska Guided Tours: LeConte Glacier

One of the most impressive sights in Alaska is LeConte Glacier, a massive (21-mile) body of ice flowing to the head of LeConte Bay. While most glaciers are worth exploring, LeConte is especially captivating because of its “shooter” icebergs, or icebergs that peak out as far as 1,000 feet from the glacier’s surface. Since its discovery in 1887, LeConte Glacier has receded nearly six miles, offering plenty of icebergs in the area to see and travel around.

If you’re visiting Alaska, you will want to take a tour to LeConte Glacier. Visitors can discover this beautiful glacier through Alaska guided tours that run from Petersburg and Wrangell.

One of our favorite tours is guided by Breakaway Adventures; we love the LeConte Glacier Adventure because it takes you to the glacier on a small, private boat instead of a large crowded vessel. It usually runs about six hours and takes you through hundreds, if not thousands of icebergs. This intimate, guided tour provides the opportunity for visitors to take photographs, explore the iceberg, and even touch the ice for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

We also love this tour because it is affordable and departure times are flexible. To enhance the trip, don’t forget to add Petersburg to the tour. For an additional charge of only $40, visitors get to spend quality time in this charming Norwegian town without running into many tourists.

Medical help before an overseas trip

Planning a vacation should be fun not stressful. When it comes to packing cloths and other essentials for the trip require additional planning closer to the departure date. You can avoid stress and make the whole process more fun by paying attention to several critical steps.

Visit your doctor few weeks before you leave to get medical help. If you are leaving out of the country, this is a visit that can pay dividends. You can get help for preventive measures including any vaccinations you may require. Some vaccinations take two to three weeks to activate and become effective. Even if you are late, it is always a good idea to take needed shots even couple of days before travel rather than none at all. Antimalarial tablets are a must for visiting tropical countries and many parts of Asia and Africa.

Search the Internet to get information on your destination. Pack insect repellants that is available in the U.S. because they may be more effective than the locally available that could contain unknown substances. Check for prohibition of certain medical products in the country you are visiting. They may have to be packed into your checked luggage rather than carry on. Always eat fully cooked meals and drink safe bottled water when you are at your destination.

Nothing Compares to Alaska

If you’re ready for a vacation but are sick of all the typical choices, you owe it to yourself to consider Alaska. Whether you’re looking for an adventure or just want to do some Alaska Sightseeing, you can’t go wrong by traveling to America’s biggest state.

Start you trip in beautiful Petersburg, Alaska and you’ll already be near the Stikine River. This majestic waterway features everything from glaciers to an assortment of amazing wildlife.

Speaking of which, if you came to see some amazing animals, you picked the right place. Alaska is home to some of the most beautiful creatures in the entire world and you can set a course to get right up close and personal with them.

For example, you can take whale watching tours where the captain will bring you near these amazing gentle giants. Watch them surface and blow water sky high before submerging again out of view.

You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the homes of Alaska’s brown bears. While these animals can be dangerous up close, your tour master will keep you from harm’s way. At a safe distance, though, you’ll be able to watch these towering land animals carry on their daily lives as if you weren’t even there.

Instead of going on another boring holiday this time around, chart a course to Alaska fro a trip you’ll never forget.

For the adults amongst you, take in some fun at the Mount Airy Casino Resort of the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The former was just opened in 2007 and the latter has both live harness racing as well as off track betting available to customers.

Incorporate a break into your travel plans

Most of us travel overseas for vacation, business, to visit family and friends and many other reasons. Some of these travel involves long distances that may take more than 15 hours of travel time especially air travel. Your travel may include a stopover before reaching your destination. We recommend that you use the stopover to turn over to a bit longer break for many reasons.

Many of the international airlines that you fly operate more than one plane during the day to that destination or might have daily flights. Therefore, you can easily incorporate a break and take the next day flight without causing much delay. One issue that arise from a longer break is your unaccompanied luggage. Many airlines will accommodate a request to fly your luggage with you without having to take it out at the break point. Make sure your carryon luggage contain adequate supply of medication and other needs for the break.

This will give you an opportunity to visit other places while visiting your destination. It will also allow you to spread your wings and avoid jetlag normally associated with long distance travel. It may be good for those who are suffering from arthritis and other medical conditions.
